Which industry makes more money, education or entertainment?
It's probably very easy to see that entertainment is a much more profitable industry.
Which industry adds more value to the world, education or entertainment? In other words, which industry contributes more to the society?
Equally easy to see - education.
Then why do movie stars and pop singers have a larger following than your local university?
That's because entertainment changes how we feel, which influences the limbic system in the human brain, according to neuroscience!
Once the limbic system is changed, we are changed at a much deeper level.
That's why the entertainment industry wins in terms of profit.
Logic doesn't make things compelling; but emotions change the game.
If you pay attention to TV commercials, you will notice that each and every one of them shows you some kind of feelings before they sell you their product. That's how advertisements work.
Question: How can we leverage this understanding to serve our academic or career success?
Make your goals compelling by adding emotions to your blueprint.
Example: When I was very young, I already wanted to teach at universities. I didn't put down "My goal is to teach at universities" on a piece of paper and forget about it. Instead, I was imagining the beautiful equipment in the university lecture hall, the engaging speech that I give university students and the powerful content that I write for young people - I was imagining that when I was about 8 or 9 years old! I felt the feeling!
Meanwhile, I worked very hard for my goal as well.
